The Boobie-Weiner Game: Body Science for Big Kids

This class teaches 4-8 year olds the scientific words for genitals without discussing sex or excessive functionality.
Instructor:
Claire Vanston
30 students enrolled
By the end of the course children will know the proper scientific terms for genitals and other body parts in an age-appropriate way. He/She will also understand that private parts are private, and who a trusted adult is.
By the end of the course parents and educators will have basic knowledge about talking to kids on a topic that can be difficult to discuss.

Developed by a PhD in psychology and human sexuality, this animated course introduces the early reader to the proper scientific terms for genitals and other body parts. It also discusses privacy and private parts on the body, as well as a discussion on inappropriate touch, trusted adults and reporting.

The course is specifically designed for children:

It's short – 12 minutes long;

It has two presentation formats. One with voice audio and background music and the other without voice audio;

It can be paused for slower readers;

And it's upbeat, nonthreatening, energetic and kinetic.

View the promo video for a more complete list of the terms to be defined and discussed.

Let's play the BOOBIE/WEINER game (music only)

1
There are some really cool words for boys private parts

This first section introduces the reader to Dr. Claire and the use of the word "interesting". From here the BOOBIE/WEINER game begins. This game starts by using a baby name, or nonscientific term for private parts, then asks the reader if they know the proper scientific word. Next, the scientific terms for male private parts are reviewed.

In the classroom I use the Boobie/Weiner game with great success as an introduction to this topic. Children tend to find it hilarious, and while they are laughing and engaged, they are also learning.

2
Poop, belly buttons and private parts: More scientific words

In this section more scientific words are added including the word 'genitals'.

3
There are also some awesome words for girls private parts

It is in this section that I cover the proper scientific terms for female genitals. Many people do not know the scientific term for the genitals on a female is a vulva, and not a vagina. In this section I differentiate the two terms. "Clitoris" is also introduced, but don't worry, function is not discussed. It has been my experience that children are fascinated with this word, not for the reasons adults often are, but because it rhymes with so many dinosaur names (and it was a 6 year-old who made this connection). See for yourself.

Taking care of genitals: Owners manual (music only)

1
Genitals are private

So many trusted adults struggle with the conversation that teaches children their genitals are private, but doesn't frighten or alarm them with discussions of sex offenders. In this section I discuss private parts and privacy, trusted adults and what a child would do if someone asked to touch or see their genitals.

2
Genital hygiene (that means keeping them clean and healthy)

No body science class is complete without a brief discussion of washroom hygiene.
