My lyric writing course will teach you how to turn an average song into a heartfelt song that will touch your listeners. I will teach you song structure, how to find song ideas, and how to put an emotional touch into your lyrics.
Beside video lectures and some handouts you will listen to some wonderfully moving songs and I will explain why they are like that. I will teach you song structure, rhyming type words and rhyming schemes before we move onto writing exercises you can do to strengthen your lyric writing skills. Finally, I will demonstrate the simple and easy lyric writing process that I use to write my own songs and when we are done, you will hear the song professional record by a Canadian artist.

The Basics of Writing and Lyrics
Writing lyrics doesn't have to be a hard and difficult thing to do. With the proper techniques, writing lyrics that rhyme or don't is something anyone can learn.
There is no better way to explain to you about writing emotion into your songs than to show you some stellar examples. Sit back and listen to some great lyricists and identify what emotions they are touching.
There is no easier place to find song ideas than in your own life.
When you sit down to write, these tools will help you get right into writing. As well, I will show you how to capture ideas when they come to you, any time, day or night.
How is a song put together and what is the purpose of each part. We will discuss in detail.
Lecture 6 is where we look at the verse, understand its roles in songwriting and what it should look like when its done.
The chorus is where the theme of your song is summarized. We will look at how to make the most of it.
Bridges can set you song in a new direction or emphasize and heighten what is already there. We will look at its role.
Hooks are the things you remember about a song. We will look at some examples of great hooks and then discuss how to write you can write a great one!
Use of Rhyme and Tension in your Songs
The number of lines and types of rhymes all play a part in making your song sound stable or unstable. Mixing and matching within your song will add and subtract the right amount of tension in your song.
Now that we know the rhyme schemes, we will look at the different types of rhyme...from perfect to consonance.
Rhyme schemes can tell a lot about your song. If you pick the right one, a mood can be set for the entire song. We will discuss the many different types and what effect they will have on your song.
Human Emotions and Writing
You can't write about emotions in your song if you don't understand what emotions look like in the human body. We will look at emotions and how they can be captured in your song.
I will show you some tips that every creative writer uses when writing novels and short stories. Writing lyrics is a lot like writing a micro novel set to music. May of the same principles apply.
My Writing Process Revealed
I will show you the process I use for writing great lyrics, Using the song "A Kid Like Me" as the example, I will create my process live on the screen.
After writing the initial lyrics it the song was sent to my music man who shaped the lyrics to the music he wrote.
You will get to see and hear the music video "A Kid Like Me" professionally done by recording artist Tom Pinsent, from his debut album "GT's Lounge."
These exercises will help your practice your writing and rhyming skills.
I will wrap up some final thoughts about writing great lyrics.
